RESTful and SOAP Services with Apache CXF

Apache CXF is Web Services and REST framework designed in very extensible and flexible way. It supports a lot of standards and features essential for Web Services developer including JAX-WS, JAX-RS, WS-Trust, WS-Security, WS-SecurityPolicy, WS-ReliableMessaging, WS-Addressing, OAuth. As far as CXF is open source project with large community, everyone has opportunity to bring new ideas, fix the bugs and even implement the new features.
This session will briefly review main CXF features and illustrate them with the live demo. It shows the APIs and best practices to implement SOAP and RESTful services in CXF. I will represent one real custom project with some specific requirements in transport, security and WS-Policy areas and we will show how these requirements were implemented using CXF.
Is it possible to create own transport in Apache CXF? How to achieve end-to-end security? What is the role of Security Token and XKMS Services, how to control security aspects using WS-Policies and what security options has RESTful service – all these questions will be discussed in the session.
Session will also give a brief overview of CXF deployment possibilities: standalone, web and OSGi and present some performance benchmarks. I will also compare CXF with other Web Service frameworks like Jersey and Metro.
The main idea of this session is to present Apache CXF, explain how it works and discuss possibilities to adapt CXF framework for the concrete custom requirements.
